Ouchy

Ouchy is a district of Lausanne and a former commune located to the south of the city, on the shores of Lake Geneva. The shoreline is extended to the west by Vidy, and to the east, set back from the quays, is the Olympic Museum..

Ouchy is a bit like the Riviera of Lausanne, a great place to stroll during the summer. Good restaurants, plenty of entertainment and the ever-changing spectacle of Lake Geneva make it a very popular spot during the summer months.

The Free Commune of Ouchy, probably created in the 13th century and originally owned by the Bishopric of Sion, was annexed to the City of Lausanne in 1798.

The port of Ouchy is where the CGN boats arrive in Lausanne. It is also where the southern terminus of the M2 metro is located. Since 2009, the district has had a Velopass self-service bicycle station (15 places), linked to the stations on the UNIL-EPFL campus and in Morges.

The Confrérie des Pirates d'Ouchy (Brotherhood of the Pirates of Ouchy) was founded in 1934, and one of its most famous 'pirates' was Federal Councillor Jean-Pascal Delamuraz.

In 1948, with the aim of preserving the last sailing boat on Lake Geneva, the Confrérie bought "La Violette", an old boat that transported materials such as stones, sand, gravel, wood, etc. It was renamed "La Vaudoise" and can be seen anchored in the port.
