Roothuus (2)AbstractCuriously, the statue that has stood in the courtyard of the Roothuus since 1580 is not of any Basel hero. It represents Lucius Munatius Plancus, Julius Caesar's lieutenant in the Gallic War, later proconsul of Gallia Comata ('Hairy Gaul') and founder of
Augusta Raurica, whose impressive ruins are located a few kilometres from Basel.
