Place des TanneursAbstractThis small square crosses the Canal des Tanneurs, so named because from the 13th century the houses built along the canal were home to leather craftsmen. The tanneries were located in the cellars of these houses, which opened directly onto the water, allowing the ‘river work’ necessary for the treatment of the hides.
