Promenade to Portara (9)AbstractThe most widely accepted hypothesis is that the temple was to be dedicated to Apollo, god of the arts and light, because it faces the sacred island of Delos, the god's birthplace according to mythology. However, it is possible that the dedication was supposed to be to Dionysus, god of wine and fiesta, who was very popular in ancient Naxos.
