Felsenkirche St. MichaelAbstractTo create this large 670 m² cavern, 6,000 m³ of rock had to be excavated. Consecrated in 1974, the church has a raw, unfinished appearance, as the cavern’s walls have simply been covered with sprayed concrete and coated. Completely devoid of natural light, the Felsenkirche might resemble the gates of hell, but its diffused lighting gives it an almost magical quality. A truly very strange place, isn’t it?
