The Hotel

The Hotel Splendid is located in the heart of the bay of Montreux, in front of Lake Geneva (Lac Leman). It was built at the end of the 19th century and its opening was in 1904. It was in 1934 that the establishment was re bought by Mr. Vital Hausmann. Since then, it has stayed within the family. The third generation of this family started to renovate the building in the year 2000, getting the inspiration from the documents dated at the beginning of the 20th century in order to bring back the charm of that time and at the same time integrating the last technologies such as Satellite TV and Internet which is free for the clients.

The Town

The beauty of its location opposite Lake Geneva, and the smoothness of its climate, has made Montreux the pearl of the Riviera of Vaud. The town is alive day and night, especially thanks to its festivals (Montreux Jazz Festival, Rose d'Or, Festival du Rire, Rencontres Chorales, etc.) its flowered docks, its terraces and casino and its Hotel Belle-Epoque. Multiple excursions are possible, especially to the Rochers-de-Naye, at 2000m, and of course to the famous castle of Chillon, built on the lake around the year 1000. Montreux allows us to ski and/or practice golf, always keeping in mind the numerous walks we can take just 15 minutes away from the downtown.

The Staff

The two current owners were born in 1963 and 1966. Yvan and Gregoire Hausmann have been working together since 1989, first beside their father Pierre, with whom they have learned a sense of business dealing worthy of the best hotel tradition. Starting off as a base, Yvan is a sommelier and Gregoire is a cook, which allows the brothers to attract their clients to their first floor restaurant for a meal the few people can imagine having, and for a variety of wines. Considering their type of clients, Yvan and Gregoire have surrounded themselves of an international staff (kitchen, service, housekeeping, front desk, webmaster and entertainers). As Yvan Hausmann says: "I am lucky to work with passionate employees." Let's not forget about Silvia Hausmann whom, after working with her husband for many years, she is still there to advice clients and indicate them the good plans that Montreux has to offer. As you can see, what keeps this establishment alive can be said in few words: serve to seduce and know how to receive.

The Celebrities

Many historic characters have had a stop at the Hotel Splendid in Montreux. Among them, Lenine (in 1908), Charlie Chaplin, Yes, the Rolling Stones and Eddie Constantine, without leaving out the numerous famous names of jazz and of music in general who live in this region or who come regularly for their festivals.
