Rue de ContheyAbstractMany streets in the old town have changed names over the centuries. This narrow street takes its modern name from the old ‘Conthey Gate’ in the city walls, to which it once led. It was a main thoroughfare through the town and was formerly known as Rue des Riches (‘Rich Street’) or Rue du Pré de Foire (‘Fairground Street’) as it leads to Place de la Planta, where fairs were held in ancient times.
