Church EntranceAbstractLeaning against a column of the church portico, an old door evokes the memory of a mysterious figure, the painter Charles Frédéric Brun, known as "the Deserter", whose grave lies just in front of it. Who was he really? No one knows. This tramp arrived in Nendaz in the mid-19th century and lived there secretly, exchanging hospitality and silence from the locals for paintings. His life and story were made famous by a novel by Jean Giono, who wrote an imaginary biography of him.
